Medicare Part A provides inpatient coverage and is the hospital insurance component of the Medicare program. When Part A coverage is combined with Medicare Part B, they create what is known as Original Medicare.
You can enroll in Medicare three months before you turn 65, which is the start of your Initial Enrollment Period. This period will last for a total of seven months to allow you to enroll in Medicare for the first time.
You can be automatically enrolled in both Parts A and B if you get benefits through Social Security or the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB).
